Nexus Engineering

The £1m Nexus building opened in 2012 to offer young people the skills, focus and aspiration needed to join the fast-changing engineering industry on and offshore.

Its mission is to raise the profile and understanding of the huge variety of opportunities in the engineering industry for young people as well as up-skilling the current workforce across the sector.

It works with more than 400 energy and manufacturing companies and is fitted with the highest specification equipment.

Qualified trainers deliver engineering skills to all ages to:

  • address the looming skills gaps posed by an ageing workforce
  • provide skilled workers for the developing industries locally, like wind and other new energies

Nexus was formed by the East Consortium, with support from Norfolk County Council and Great Yarmouth Borough Council. The project was supported by government funding for vocational education.

“The pupils have really enjoyed working with Nexus staff on projects both in school and at the Nexus base. The engineering after school club and projects within the school time have given the children a real insight into the breadth of engineering. They have appreciated working with both the excellent resources and the specialist staff.”
